Understand the Details to Know a Home’s True Age
This is a popular question that we get all the time, and there are certain details of homes that can reveal age.
For example, here are some hallmarks of homes from the 1930’s:
- Typically are of colonial design, in this area
- Nice details on the first floor, e.g. built-in cabinets, oak floors, moldings, etc
- BUT, scaled back from 1920’s builds, so lower ceilings and often a pull down attic in lieu of an open 3rd floor.
- Closet space more thoughtful, but still often lacking.
- And the dead giveaway – small brass door knobs that are typically set higher on the door.
