South Mountain Reservation

Last in the series of the County Parks we are highlighting, is the largest and most feature rich.

South Mountain Reservation covers 2,112 acres in the central section of Essex County, extending through the municipalities of West Orange, Maplewood, and Millburn, bordering South Orange, between the first and second ridges of the Watchung Mountain Range.

In addition to largely unspoiled terrain, it also abuts Turtle Back Zoo and encompasses Orange Reservoir, which features boating, fishing and a surrounding walking path. The Rahway river runs through the park and Hemlock Falls, on a feeder stream, is a popular destination.

It’s Daisy approved and definitely worth a visit.
