On the Water Edition
Want to beat the heat in August?
Getting out on the water is a great way to cool off!
Some of our favorite local canoe and kayak spots:
- Delaware River – Uncrowded, plenty of access and you’ll see eagles everytime out.
- Hackensack River – Right in our backyard, the “Hacky” offers a wild setting amid urban landscapes.
- Split Rock Reservoir – Undeveloped large public lake in nearby Boonton.
- Raritan River – Harder to access, but leisurely paddle through pastoral setting.
- Sandy Hook – Park at lot C, and it’s a short carry to the “windsurfing beach”.
Reputable Outfitters of Gear:
- Yellow Dog Paddle – Paddle Boarding, Kayaking, Fishing, Full Moon/Sunset Paddles, SUP Yoga
- Hackensack River Keepers Paddle Centers – A great organization that has everything you need to explore the Hacky.
- Kittatinny Canoes – They’ve been running Delaware river trips for over 80 years!
